June is the start of the real harvest season in southeast Michigan. Here’s what to expect at local markets and farm stands:

• Strawberries — peak season, often available for U-pick at area farms
• Asparagus — tail end of the season, grab it while you can
• Salad greens — lettuce, spinach, and arugula are abundant
• Early greens — kale, chard, and collards
• Herbs — basil, dill, and cilantro starting to come in

Check the Ann Arbor Farmers Market on Wednesdays or Saturdays for the widest selection — it’s the only market in the area open twice a week through June — or look up a CSA like Tantre Farm or Blue Spring Farm if you want this delivered weekly without the trip. U-pick cherries also start at Wasem Fruit Farm toward the end of the month.
