Michigan is one of the top blueberry-producing states in the country, and local blueberries are a highlight of summer at Washtenaw County farmers markets. Picked ripe and eaten within days, they're sweeter and more flavorful than anything shipped across the country. The season runs from early July through mid-August. Several local farms offer u-pick options โ a fun summer outing for families.

A no-spray, natural practice blueberry farm in Belleville (Wayne County), just outside Washtenaw County. Blueberry bushes dating to 1968. U-pick only, mid-July through mid-August. Also sells free-range eggs and pastured pork. Reservations required for weekdays; tickets required for weekends.
Dexter Blueberry Farm
Dexter
A dedicated u-pick blueberry farm in Dexter โ blueberries are all they grow. Season runs July through approximately 6 weeks at $2.75/lb. U-pick only; no pre-picked berries available. Call ahead before visiting: 734-426-2900.

Year-round farm market near the Washtenaw/Lenawee county line with a 17-week summer CSA, bakery, sweet cider, jams, and raw honey. CSA pickup available at Ann Arbor, Chelsea, Saline, Northville, Pittsfield, and Farmington markets.
Wasem Fruit Farm
Milan
Family-owned u-pick orchard and cider mill between Ypsilanti and Milan, open Fridays 9am-5pm. Offers u-pick apples and raspberries, fresh cider, donuts, local honey, and homemade jams. Check their Facebook page for the latest hours and apple picking schedule.
